Spring!

Spring has supposedly hit Hogwarts this week. Considering that the temps are hovering in the 30's, I'm a little skeptical. On the other hand, flowers are starting to bloom, the sun is shining way more than it used to, and colors are begining to creep back into the washed-out winter landscape... so maybe it has arrived. We shall see :)

I picked up some fun stuff for my RAOK on Sunday. Let's just say I got 4 for myself and my friends to play with, and 2 to send to... someone :) I hope she likes it and doesn't think it's silly... but really, there's nothing better than going outside in the spring and ------ - ----, especially if you live anywhere near a -----!

Ugh, brain freeze.  More later :)

raok

Lydia Figg sent me a gold dragon!

I've been helping her stockpile dragons in her cave, so she knew these dragons would be very well cared for :)

Seriously

I am seriously grumpy today. Instead of working on my homework, I think I will get cracking on the Jeopardy game I am writing.  What better way to teach safety procedures to adults right? lol

Quidditch 2

1. On which day did the Order of the Phoenix come to get Harry?
c. Saturday
I'm not sure if you're allowed to fly Broomsticks on Shabbat. The prohibition against driving a car is based on the prohibition against lighting a fire, because you are burning gasoline in the engine. Which clearly wouldn't apply with a broomstick. However, if I recall correctly, one may not ride a horse on Shabbat because one might break a branch, which is prohibited. The legality of riding Broomstick would probably depend on how likely it is to break a twig off the tail in flight. Also, I'm not sure if you need to take into account that the Order knew Death Eaters would be firing at them and breaking pieces off the brooms. It would depend on how strong the causality is. I think.

2. During all this chaos with voldemort and the Death Eaters, people still had lives to live and Ron's oldest brother, Bill decided to marry Fleur Delacour? Who were the uninvited guests at Bill and Fleur's wedding?
b. Death Eaters
I don't think "Death" is kosher. I wonder if there were Jewish Death Eaters?

3. Voldemort had seven Horcruxes hidden in different places. Six of them were hidden at the Gaunt shack, Hogwarts, a cave, inside Harry, inside his snake, Nagini and Tom Riddles Diary. Did Voldemort hide the last Horcrux inside the Malfoy's vault at Gringotts?
b. No

4. Why did the Dumbledore's move to Godric's Hollow?
c. The father went to Azkaban

5. Harry and Hermione read a part of "Life and Lies of Albus Dumbledore," written by Rita Skeeter. Then they met Dumbledore's brother Abeforth and he told them the same story, just with a few details changed. Which of the following did Aberforth and Rita Skeeter agree on about Dumbdore's past?
b. That Dumbledore was friends with Grindelwald for a while.

6. When Harry and Hermione visit Godric's Hollow, they visit the graveyard to see Harry's parent's graves. Harry walks by a tombstone that we later learn belong to tone of "The Three Broother'. The brother buried there once owned what?
b. The cloak

7. The Trio finds out that Luna had been kidnapped by the Death Eaters , and that they won't give her back until they got Harry Potter. Why did they kidnap Luna?
a. Her father sided with Harry and Dumbledore

8. After Voldemort killed Snape, he left the room and Harry came out from under the cloak. Snape gave Harry some of his memories all the way from when he was a child to just months before. Harry dived into the Pensieve and which of the following did he not see?
c. Snape and Lily having fun in a potions class

9. On the search of the Lost Diadem, Harry finally gets to talk to the Gray Lady. Who was the Gray Lady when she was alive?
c. Helena Ravenclaw.

10. Which of these is not one of Harry or Ron's children?
d. Victoria

crazy week

This week was CRAZY long.  I had a day off school on Tuesday to celebrate Purim, but instead of sleeping in and taking it easy I was on the go from 8:30 in the morning 'til 10:30 at night!  It was really fun, but now I know why there's so many things we aren't allowed to do on Shabbat and all the other holidays.  Holidays are exhausting, and limiting ourselves from using the phones, the computers, the cars, and all that stuff keeps us from running ourselves ragged.  I guess Chanukah is easier because there's 8 days to get everything done?  Anyways, it was a fun day with friends and family, and of course Mishloach Manot

TGIF!

1. When I look to the left, I see the Teavana Rose Marzipan Delight tea that Elanor Cadogan sent me, sitting on my desk waiting for my afternoon tea break.

2. My room is the room that has the best view in my home (but I might be biased ;).

3. Let it work its magic.

4. ::Imitates Shaina's Metallica imitation:: Dirty Deeds done dirt cheap! (LOL we listened to this song a LOT when we went to Lake Placid, and Shaina and Howard spoofed it perfectly :D)

5. Education is a responsibility that all qualified citizens must share.

6. If you have any tips on things like getting gauge and making knitted garments that actually fit feel free to send me an Owl... I'm going to attempt this.

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to getting some sleep, tomorrow my plans include partying like it's 1984 (and karaoke) and Sunday, I want to start Spring Cleaning!

Friday Fill In

Dear Elladora,

This Mad Libs thing is so much fun! Thank you for telling me about it.

Quinn

1. Directing a first year to the broom closet (and not locking him in!) was my last random act of kindness.

2. Another place I'd love to live (for a year or two) is Boston, but don't tell Cassandra or I'll never hear the end of it! Despite their deplorable sports teams, Boston is a great town, and it's near enough to my family that I could visit easily and cheaply.

3. Be smart in matters of the heart.

4. Coffee, tea or hot apple cider? Tough call, either cider or tea for me please.

5. I really don't mind taking separate paths.

6. Our conversations reminds me that there is a huge world out there, with lots of interesting people in it.

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to going to sleep early, tomorrow my plans include a kiddush and a high school musical (Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat!!) and Sunday, I want to bake Hamantashen!

Snow!!!

Sunday night and Monday morning, about a foot of snow fell at Hogwarts!  I loooooove snow, but I don't much like being stuck indoors while there is Snow! on the ground!  So I was kinda grumpy Monday.

How do you cheer up a grumpy Slytherin?  In the words of one of my favorite musicals: Schadenfreude.  I won't name names, but someone thought it would be funny to cover the doors and windows of Madam Hooch's broomshed with a mound of snow and then pour water over it... It froze over, and now the shed is 100% sealed! No flying lessons or Quidditch practice until they can figure out how to melt the snow away without burning down the shed.  Of course the Slytherin brooms were all in our common room for the "Broom Waxing Seminar" that Ophelia Crookshanks taught Sunday evening.  Mwah ha ha ha ha

Off to purchase some more yarn for the shawl I am knitting for my Grandma.  It's her birthday this week.
